With Kids in Lansing, MI
Updated September 24, 2026
Lansing's parks system does most of the work here. Pick one, add food, and the day plans itself.
## Start outside
[Hawk Island Park](/places/hawk-island-park) at 1601 E Cavanaugh Rd is 100 acres and runs year-round: swimming and trails in summer, snowboarding in winter. [Fenner Nature Center](/places/fenner-nature-center) at 2020 E Mt Hope Ave adds a visitor center and environmental education to its 134 acres of trails, which is the better call when you want the kids to learn something.
For a shorter stop, [Sharp Park](/places/sharp-park) on Elmwood Rd pairs a two-acre fishing pond with a playground and sports facilities, and [Marshall Park](/places/marshall-park) at 800 June St has a playground, a ball field and picnic space.
## Lunch
Pizza settles arguments. [Blaze Pizza](/places/blaze-pizza) at 300 N Clippert St builds thin-crust pies to order at the counter, which is fast and lets everyone pick their own. [Italian Village Pizza](/places/italian-village-pizza) on W Saginaw Hwy is the local-chain version with hoagies on the menu, and [Mancino's Pizza and Grinders](/places/mancino-s-pizza-and-grinders) on N Waverly Rd is women-owned and does grinders as well as pies.
## Afternoon
[Grand Woods Park](/places/grand-woods-park) has walking trails, disc golf and athletic fields, so older kids have something to do beyond a playground. [Scott Woods Park](/places/scott-woods-park) at 2605 Clifton Ave is the quieter option, with nature trails and a lake for kayaking.
## Treat
Finish at [Sugar Shack](/places/sugar-shack) at 215 N Clippert St — a small sweet shop with a rotating cupcake selection and a short enough line to survive with a tired four-year-old. [Love's Kitchen LLC](/places/love-s-kitchen-llc) on S Washington Ave is a cottage bakery with an international range if you want something less familiar.
## The short version
Hawk Island in the morning, Blaze Pizza at noon, Grand Woods after, cupcakes at Sugar Shack. Everyone sleeps well.
